Infinity Brewing Nimbus Beer Review - The First Infinity Gem Discovered?

I had to admit I had never heard of Infinity Brewing when I received a text one Sunday morning asking me “Did you say you wanted something from Infinity brew?” from my significant other, Beth. She was at a vegan market and I was still very much in bed. But a quick google later and I was captivated by the idea of this nanobrewery.

Born out of a decade-long love of homebrewing, going professional in late 2020, Infinity Brewing Company is based in the residential area of Maypole in South Birmingham, England. Literally based in a converted household utility room and run by couple Chris and Tammy, who have made a range of small batch runs. Their current line up mixes a range of classic flavour combinations and more experimental choices. Mostly selling direct through e-commerce and market stall appearances as they’re major outlets, I count myself lucky that Beth confused them for a larger brewery I had mentioned in passing, otherwise I may never have known they existed.

As an unashamed fan of New England IPAs, Nimbus was my first entry to the brewery's product. Deep, thick, unfined and unfiltered, this 6% hazy promised everything you might expect from a NEIPA. Featuring an all American hop trio of Cascade and Citra, plus the relatively new to me Cashmere. Nimbus poured quite lively, and I will accept all ridicule that I didn’t help this process one bit.

The first taste was not what I expected, smokier somehow than the NEIPAs I generally love. I initially thought this beer wasn’t for me and suddenly wondered if maybe Cashmere didn’t combine well with the other hops or didn’t suit my palate somehow. But I have learned to commit to challenging beers and this one revealed its true self in short order. A few sips later and more accustomed to the depth of its responsibly strong taste, I began to greatly enjoy this ultimately impressive offering. Even as a fan of stronger beers and considering myself a seasoned drinker, perhaps on this occasion I was simply slightly overpowered on that first sip. Described by the brewers as tropical, soft and zesty I have come to believe Nimbus would fit very well when enjoying a couple of beers around it, responsibly of course. This way the drinker would be adequately prepared for it to truly shine on suitably prepared taste buds. Ultimately drinking very easily, but with a strong, rich enough taste that it would simply cut above a lot of beers you could place around it.

Due to the short run approach Infinity Brewing are doing, I would assume all of their current Nimbus run was canned in August 2022, alongside the one I sampled. Meaning at this point I imagine stock might well be getting a bit low. That said the beer is currently still available on their site infinitybrewing.uk, which also lays out the breadth of their work past and present. Sold out runs of a double IPA, wheat beer and a mild sit alongside current pales and even a pecan and maple stout. Clearly a brewery with lofty ambitions, I am happy I still have 3 more to try!
