Brew Toon Pineapple Pils Beer Review - Feverishly Fruity

Pineapple Pils is a tropical pilsner produced by a small craft brewery in mainland Scotland’s most easternly point, Peterhead. This brewery is called Brew Toon and relatively new; as of the time of writing the brewery is only five years old. Although, the brewery’s relative young age is juxtaposed against the rich brewing history of the area.

The Brew Toon Brewery produces a wide range of small batch beers at their site. They aim to create craft beers that are full of flavour and character with locally sourced produce. The brewery is built on a very historical site. Where Brew Toon stands today, the “Hunter & Sons - Tanfield Brewery” once stood. The Tanfield Brewery was accompanied by two other popular breweries of the time, Brae Brewery and Heslops. The area of Peterhead was a thriving port town in the 1700’s when the Tanfield brewery was founded. With the area becoming incredibly well known for it’s fishing industry. To this day, Peterhead remains the biggest fishing port in the whole United Kingdom. The original breweries on this site were the last of a dying breed. That was the case until recently, with more and more craft breweries popping up all across the country. The wave of mass production beers proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the Tanfield Brewery, eventually having to close their doors. But, the seed of brewing had been planted, and like a phoenix, Brew Toon arose from the ashes Tanfield Brewery.

Brew Toon have seen an increasing amount of success over the years and things only seem to be getting better. 2021 was a big year for the brewery, it seen them grow production by +35%, launch 13 new beers, purchase a canning line, win numerous awards such as “Brewer Of The Year” and collaborate with other cracking breweries such as Feirce Beer, 71 Brewing, Six Degrees North and Dog Falls.

The beer itself is an incredibly pleasant affair; a blend of crisp malts combined with fresh pineapple & fruity hops. The pineapple note is incredibly distinct and easily identifiable, providing the drinker with a unique blend of flavour. With any great pilsner, you get that real crisp taste that is so synonymous with that style of beer and this is no different. There is also a an entire portfolio of different fruity flavours on show, akin to the Garden Of Eden; passionfruit and lyhcees support the headline act of pineapple, creating a fantastic amalgamation of flavours. This beer is 4.5% ABV, making it an easy drink and very pleasurable. The can itself is adorned in some fantastic custom art. Every different beer has it’s own unique design. Fans of the brewery would have themselves an art exhibition after a few drinks.
